What are the benefits of being a seagan?

It seems like today one of the biggest identifiers of who you are is your diet. Everyone has heard the terms pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan, plant-based whole food and even keto to describe someone’s chosen eating habits or lifestyle. Sometimes none of the common names seem to really fit so a new word, label and eating style was created — the Seagan!

A Seagan is someone who follows a diet that is an altered version of both the pescatarian and plant-based (traditionally viewed as vegan) diets. As a Seagan, you choose to remove land animals and their bi-products from your diet. If you follow the vegan diet and choose to occasionally enjoy sustainable seafood, you would be considered a Seagan.

There are many benefits to following a seagan diet. Here are our top five reasons to be a Seagan.

  1. It’s healthy. Plain and simple, if you stick to a diet that is focused on fresh produce and seafood, it’s easy to eat and feel satisfied and still remain healthy.
  2. It’s easier. One issue we come across often is the lack of menu options at restaurants and other events that do not include land animals or other bi-products. Most limited options are classified as vegetarian and include dairy products. When you are open to eating seafood, there are many more menu items to choose and in most cases they are still healthy and low fat.
  3. It’s easier on the stomach. Scientifically it’s proven that fish is easier to digest than land animals.
  4. Seafood is packed with protein and nutrients. Ounce-for-ounce, you can get just as much — if not more — protein, B-12 and other nutrients from seafood versus land animals, and there’s so much more flavor varieties with seafood.
  5. Variety. There are so many types of seafood you can eat. When it comes to land animals, unless you are a professional game hunter, you are limited to beef, pork and chicken. In the ocean, there are hundreds of varieties of fish, shellfish and crustacea to eat.

Are you already classified as a Seagan? What made you decide that this was the right diet for you? Looking to try a seagan diet? What is your primary driver? Tell us in the comments below.
